Somerset Army Cadet Force

The platoon found a home at Moor Park in October 2008 after 22 years of 'homelessness' - unable to find a permanent base in Weston super Mare for their activities. Since coming to Moor Park their number has risen after a recent recruitment drive. Paul Ziegler's (Platoon Commander) aim is for numbers to swell to 60+ by the end of 2009 with three instructors, meeting at Moor Park on Mondays and Wednesdays for Drill, Mustering, Field craft, Air Rifle Range etc.

The Army Cadet Force is a voluntary uniformed youth organisation, sponsored by the Ministry of Defence. It has been successfully helping young people in their development for over 100 years. There are at present some 50,000 boys and girls aged between 12 - 18 years in the Army Cadet Force nationwide and approximately 800 members in Somerset.

The aim of the Army Cadet Force, as described in our Charter, is to inspire young people to achieve success in Life with a spirit of service to the Queen, their country and their local community, and to develop in them the qualities of a good citizen.

It is one of the country's leading youth organisations. It is run on military style guidelines, and a certain amount of discipline is to be expected. The ACF offers a full training syllabus designed to help young people to become good citizens and responsible members of the community. We offer various activities along with friendship, discipline, leadership, development - and lots of fun!
